A Brief Explanation Of Events

Audax:

Audax events are popular and very well supported throughout the U.K. and Europe. They involve cyclists following a pre-determined route, generally using quiet country lanes, at relatively low average speeds. The competitive aspect of the event is the challenge to finish within generous time lLlandudno Critsimits. Entrants cover a broad spectrum of social groups and ages.   Although a large number of riders are expected to participate – perhaps up to 500 cyclists – inconvenience to the local population is very limited due to staggered starting times and the carefully planned routes used.

At the present time the route for the Conwy Audax is in the planning stage. We fully expect a large entry from across the U.K. with many riders and their families taking the opportunity to stay for the weekend in and around Llandudno and watch Sunday’s events.

Criteriums:

Llandudno Crits Criterium races are often the most exciting and spectator friendly of cycling events. Short closed road, town centre circuits are used and racing is very fast and spectacular, spectators having the opportunity to watch riders pass every couple of minutes. Professional commentators keep both knowledgeable spectators and those new to the sport informed of the proceedings during and between races. They attract large numbers of spectators – an event in Newport, Shropshire has estimated crowds of 10,000. Our event will also be bolstered by Audax riders and their families staying for the weekend. The events we are organising are highly prestigious and will incorporate the British National Championships for both Elite Men and Women, as well as supporting races for most age groups. It is expected that we will receive entries from National Champions, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games riders.   Due to the pro-active marketing of the event committee it is also envisaged that we will have entrants from Ireland and other European countries for the supporting events.

Enclosed, for your reference, is a map showing the circuit in Llandudno town centre, which uses Mostyn Street (the main shopping thoroughfare), Trinity Square, Clonmel Street and The Parade (runs alongside one of the most scenic promenades in the U.K.). The whole circuit will be marshalled and enclosed with the use of barriers.

It must be stressed at this point that these events have been actively supported by Conwy County Borough Council and North Wales Police for which offer our sincere thanks.
